The Dobsonian Telescopes Design
The Dobsonian telescopes endeavored to make large aperture telescopes portable and reasonably priced especially for the amateur astronomer. It is good for deep sky observation and enables the viewer to see star clusters and galaxies. Amateur astronomers can even make this design using materials they gather themselves though there are many companies, which sell this design including Obsession Telescope among others.
The Dobsonian telescope includes thin mirrors. Dobson used mirrors that came from ship porthole glass. Dobsonian telescopes feature a hard telescope tubes. Originally, John Dobson used tubes used in construction to make his telescopes. This was considerably cheaper than tubes specifically manufactured for telescopes. There was the square mirror box for the mirror housing. The Dobsonian telescopes use an alt-azimuth type of design to rotate the telescope. Dobsonian also was the first to introduce the open steel frame, self-cooling mirror cell.
